I’m Fruzsina Williams. I was born and raised in Hungary. I went to Waldorf school and it made me fall in love with art, creating and design. I used to design handbags, clothes and digital art. In 2019 I started painting and that made me very happy. When I ran out of room to store my paintings, I fell in love with home DIYs and interior design and I found myself redesigning my home from top to bottom. Lately I’ve been learning about user experience design and I like it so much, I’m surprised I didn’t know about it before. I enjoy learning new things, new software and I hope I get to be a professional designer one day. Honesty and loyalty are important to me and I want to live by those values in my work as well as in my personal life.

My passions are interior design, thrifting, creative thinking (out of the box thinking), movies and TV among many things.

My personal projects

Old bathroom

I decided to make over my bathroom during the quarantine. First I took pictures of it before I did anything to it at all. Then I thought about the colors I wanted to use. My first problem was the color of the wall. It was too dark. I decided to go with something a little lighter but not pure white. Then of course the hardware had to change to something more consistent. I went with matt black.

New bathroom

After the makeover It is clear that the lighter color walls were a good idea since there’s no window in there at all. I got rid of the metal shelf in the corner and went with a natural wood one that stretches across the back wall. I needed some natural element next to the wall color and the matt black accents.

IKEA hack

I love these little drawers from IKEA. I always wanted to make them look better. First I had to decide on the styles. I wanted all three to have a different vibe. I ordered three different kind of hardware and decided on different stains and paints. Then the work began.

Special drawer units

I worked hard on all three for days. I picked three styles to go with and I loved them all. After the layers of primer, paint and stain this is what I got. When I put the hardware on them they transformed completely. My dream is to buy 9 of these drawers and build one big piece of furniture.

Inspiration

I found this picture online and I fell in love with it. I wanted to make it for myself but I knew it would be too big in my home and I was also short on many tools that was needed for this project. But I drew up some plans anyway and made it a little smaller so it can fit into my room. I was worried about the tools but it turned out to be okay.

Process

First I realized that the IKEA mirrors I got were said to be 12”x12” but they were actually 11.75”x11.75”. I had learned a lesson here. I knew that the wood at the Home Depot were always supposed to be shorter than said but I had no idea that IKEA did that with mirrors as well. So I had to adjust the whole plan and recut all the wood I had ready. After that it was just the matter of putting it together.

Result

I enjoyed the end result so much. It was one of my first DIY projects and I wanted to be able to use the mirror in my home. I learned so much from this experience and I realized that I dont need fancy equipment to bring my visions to life.
